How does an oil/water separator work and more about
online water contamination and detection.

oil water centrifugal separator

The mechanism of how these work is due to the oil having a lower specific gravity than water, in other words oil is lighter then water, if you mix oil and water in a jar and leave it over a period of time the mix will separate and the oil will float to the top because it is lighter, this is caused by gravity.

In modern day separators such as the bucket type, this process is speeded up by filling the bowl full of oil/water/impurities of different specific gravities and spinning it at high speed this results in a large centrifugal force acting on the fluid several times greater the natural gravity of earth, this means the fluid separates faster with the heavy impurities thrown to the outer edge of the bowl with the water next then the oil.

The oil then leaves the center of the bowl cleaner then it was when it entered. Owing to this separation you have a oil water interface the water can also get tapped off here if you have a large water content in the oil. The impurities will just build up unless the bowl is self cleaning meaning in a set period of time it goes through a cleaning cycle that makes a opening at the extremities of the bowl allowing the impurities to exit and collect in a sludge tank.

Water in Oil Sampling vs Online Detection

Water in lubricating or fuel oil can enter from many sources including condensation, leakage and malfunction of oil treatment systems. Water in oil will cause corrosion, cavitation and instability of additive packages and encourage the growth of microbes. Testing for water in oil is essential to maintain and protect your equipment, preventing damage in advance. Traditionally many operator have relied on the supply various types of test kits for water in oil, depending on their requirements. These made be stand alone devices that work by a change in chemical reaction. These tests are valid tests but can never be an indication of whether or not the oil has been contaminated at any time during a 24 hour period. They are simply a snapshot sample of the current condition of the oil at the time that the test sample was taken.

Online water in oil Monitoring

online water oil testing equipment

The EASZ-1 manufactured and designed by EESIFLO is a unique device that provides on board or in factory measurement and recording of water content content in oils, helping you identify a problem before it causes engine and equipment failure.

IMMEDIATE Onboard results at your fingertips

It couldn’t be easier. Simply install or retrofit an EASZ-1 water in oil monitor into your existing equipment and you will be continually measuring the current contamination levels in real time.

The information sent to a control room by the EASZ-1 will enable you send information to your control centre so that you will be able to log contamination condition and give you complete set of trend data showing the current water contamination level and warn of an imminent breakdown or simply provide information for preventative maintenance which reduces equipment downtime and increases operational profitability

For more information or immediate shipment of an EASZ-1 ,please contact your local EESIFLO representative or log onto www.eesiflo.com
