An
obstruction in a pipe creates vortices on the
downstream side of the obstruction. Temperature
or pressure sensors measure the vortices to gauge
the strength of flow.

For years, Vortex Technology has been an economical
way to monitor constant liquids, steam and constant
density gas flows. Sierra's Volumetric Vortex
product line features an inline version, the Model
220 Innova-Flo® and a unique insertion version,
the Model 221 Innova-Flo®. Both models use
Sierras state-of-the-art vortex sensing
technology tied into a sophisticated on-board
computer. The Model 220 and Model 221 have smart
electronics that extends the sensitivity and rangeability
of the meter far below that of conventional vortex
meters. Program in a constant density, and a mass
flow readout is achieved. Both models are loop
powered for extreme ease of installation. When
you need to monitor liquid flows, think Innova
Flo® ! More

Instrumart's Vortex Flowmeter
The inline GE Panametrics PanaFlow™ MV80 vortex flow meter is the next generation vortex meter. The multivariable design of the GE Panametrics PanaFlow™ MV80 vortex flow meter consists of a vortex shedding velocity sensor, an RTD temperature sensor and a solid state pressure transducer that measures the mass flow rate of steam, gases, and liquids.
Other meter types use external process measurements to calculate mass flow. The temperature and pressure devices are typically not installed in the same location as the flow meter. Process conditions can vary greatly between the two locations, causing inaccurate mass flow readings. The GE Panametrics PanaFlow™ MV80 vortex flow meter measures velocity, temperature and pressure at the same location, which provides more accurate process measurement.
Integrating pressure and temperature into the vortex flow meter simplifies system complexity and helps minimize initial capital costs, as well as reduce the installation costs. There is no need to purchase additional instrumentation to monitor pressure and temperature since the GE Panametrics PanaFlow™ MV80 vortex flow meter will output all parameters to your data acquisition system. The product line is available with a wide range of options and meter configurations to meet your specific application requirements. More Info>>
Sierra: Model 220 Innova-Flo®
Inline Volumetric Vortex Flow Meter
Volumetric flow monitoring of most gases, liquids
and steam
Rangeable down to Reynold's number of 5000
In-line sizes from 1/4 " to 8"
1% rate accuracy (liquids) or 0.7% for gases over
a 30:1 turndown
Fully field configurable
Loop powered with 4-20ma output
Sierra's Model 220 Innova-Flo
provides a direct reading of volumetric flow for liquids,
steam or constant density gases. Product accuracy is ±1%
of rate for liquids and 0.7% of rate for gases and steam
over a 30:1 range. The Model 220 is hazardous area approved
for FM, CSA, and CE and available in flow body sizes from
1/4-inch up to 8-inches.
The Model 220 allows for a constant density input to
calculate mass flow for incompressible fluids or constant
density gas or steam flow. The product features loop
power, simple installation with ANSI flanges and a 4-20
loop output. A separate totalizer pulse output is also
standard. Smart electronics provides access to all measured
variables and programming menus. More Info>>
Aalborg: Vortex Inline
Flowmeter
BENEFITS
RELIABLE No moving parts to wear or fail.
Electronics can be remote mounted up to 30.5
m
(100 ft).
No fluid to sensor contact.
No holes to clog.
WIDE RANGEABILITY
High flow turndown ratio up to 80:1.
Dual signal processing technology improves
accuracy at low flows.
HIGH ACCURACY
0.5% of rate.
Increased noise cancellation as a result of
dual signal processing technology.
Vortices are created when
a fluid passes around a bluff body as shown below.Vortices
are alternately shed on each side of the body, 180 degrees
out of phase to each other, resulting in an oscillating
pressure gradient. As flow increases the frequency of
vortices increases in proportion to the increased flow
thereby creating a linear relationship.
AALBORG’s unique dual signal processing technology
independently measures each vortex on either side of
the bluff body and filters out non-flow noise. This
results in less noise and higher accuracy throughout
the flow range. Dual signal processing technology independently
measures each vortex providing increased accuracy and
turndown. More Info>>
