11/03/10 : MASS-VIEW® is the best technology for hospitals & Life Sciences
Variable area (VA) flowmeters or rotameters are relatively low cost and simple to install, easy to read and maintain, require little or no energy and offer reasonable levels of accuracy and repeatability, which is why the technology is so widely used and trusted for gas and air flow measurement. Yet, says Cambridge-based Bronkhorst UK (distributor of Mass Flow ONLINE in the UK), for many applications, particularly in the Life Sciences and Medicine, where precision, rangeability, accountability and safety are critical, this centuries-old flowmeter principle no longer measures up.

10/09/09: Water Contamination in oil based fluids
Water contamination in oil based fluids can cause numerous problems such as loss of revenue, additive depletion, oil oxidation, corrosion, reduced lubricating film thickness, accelerated component wear rates, microbiological growth, reduction of dielectric strength and loss of power as an example . These problems can be prevented by online monitoring , so that problems can be averted in time.

12/11/08 : MASS-VIEW High-Tech replacement for VA meters
The new MASS-VIEW® flow meter series are a digital alternative to the conventional VA meters (variable area meters) or rotameters. The MASS-VIEW® flow meter series incorporates a digital bar graph of actual gas flow, which is, thanks to the OLED (organic light emitting diode) technology, clearly visible from all angles, as well as indicating flow units, gas type and totalised figures. Also available with an optional in-built needle valve for flow control duties, it is designed to mimic the straightforward features and vertical format of the VA meter, but with the considerable added benefits of an electronic output signal, . 15/07/08 : Highly Accurate Biogas Flow Rates in Sewage Treatment Digestrs
The methane-rich biogas posed a problem for conventional flow meters which could not cope with the low flow rates, low pressure and high humidity specific to biogas. Using optical laser beams to measure the velocity of naturally-occurring particulates, the Focus® Probe enables highly accurate flow determination despite pipe vibration, acoustic noise and gas condensation. 10/12/07 : The Evolution of Thermal Mass Flow Meters
Thermo-Systems, Inc. (TSI) began in
its founder’s basement in 1959, with a
cooled-film anemometer designed for
transient measurements in high temperature
fluid flows. This led to TSI’s hot-film and
hot-wire anemometers, the first commercial
products of this type. These immersion-type
devices were used mainly as research
instruments, many related to environmental
pollution. More>>

10/12/07 : Micro Fluidic Flow and Pressure
Control Modules for Integration
Into Compact Systems
Equipment manufacturers are looking for compact
solutions to monitor or control the gas flow or pressure
within their systems. As these systems are getting smaller
and smaller, the incorporated flow and/or pressure
control units need to be miniaturized. For example, the dimensions of a conventional gas
chromatograph (GC) are approximately 1 x 1 x 1 m. The
latest generation of (portable) GCs may have dimensions
down to circa 25 x 25 x 25 cm. More>>

17/09/07 : Maintenance
Free Flow Monitoring
A flow monitoring site
located on the effluent of the Town of Erie
Colorado’s Water Reclamation Facility
had been problematic from the start due to a
very steep fall designed into the system just
in front of the metering location. Erie, Colorado’s
Water Reclamation Facility was built in 1998
and is a 1.2 mgd activated sludge water reclamation
facility. The water reclamation facility utilizes
various physical and biological processes to
remove the organic and inorganic constituents
from wastewater generated by residential, commercial,
and industrial sources. More>>

13/08/07 : Solid State
Air Flow Sensing
Typically the measurement
involves two PTC thermistors embedded in the
probe tip or wall of the sensor. One of the
PTC thermistors (the reference thermistor) monitors
the temperature of the medium being measured
(air, water, oil, etc.) while the other is heated
a fixed percentage above the reference thermistor.
This sets up a differential resistance between
the two. More>>
