Why are there so many types of flowmeters?
In order more fully understand flow measurement , it is advantageous to familiarize oneself with fluid physical properties and constants because these affect the way a flow meter has been designed and how it will perform in its particular application. The reader may further understand why there is then no universal flowmeter for every application.
The following could be considerations but not limited to them. This all depends on the application-

Not all flow measurement is reported in the same units. We still have people using either the imperial, metric or SI units or a combination of them. It may be necessary to use a unit conversion table or unit conversion program.
For example ,Europeans tend toward the metric system units while those from the United States are more familiar with the imperial unit system.
